Privacy policy
Your text stays under your control.
KeyAct is a macOS menu-bar workspace. It does not require an account or use a developer-operated server to process your text or recordings.
Developer data collection
RainDigit does not receive your text, translations, voice recordings, transcripts, clipboard contents, local history, or action responses through KeyAct. The app has no advertising, tracking, or usage analytics. Starting with version 1.0.1, you can choose to send technical error reports as described below. This does not mean that every feature is offline: the network uses described below communicate directly with their destination services.
Optional technical error reports
Error reporting is off by default. If you turn on Settings → Diagnostics → Share error reports, KeyAct sends technical reports to RainDigit's diagnostics centre, powered by Sentry, to help find and fix crashes and other errors. Reports contain error codes, the affected operation, crash traces, app and macOS versions, and device model and architecture. They are not linked to your identity and are not used for advertising or tracking.
Your text, translations, clipboard contents, audio recordings, transcripts, local history and action responses are never included in these reports. KeyAct removes user identity, request data, free-text error descriptions and private file paths before sending. The Sentry project is configured not to store IP addresses or geographic information. As with any online service, your IP address is used to deliver the connection to Sentry.
You can turn error reporting off at any time in Settings. This stops new reports, cancels pending transmissions and clears KeyAct's local diagnostic cache. It does not remove reports already sent. No KeyAct feature depends on your consent. Reports are retained according to the Sentry project's retention period and are available to RainDigit for app maintenance.
Text and local history
KeyAct processes text you type or provide through the clipboard. The full local edition can also read selected text from the foreground application after you grant Accessibility permission; the sandbox App Store / TestFlight edition does not use that access. Saved history, language preferences, shortcuts, and action definitions are stored on your Mac. You can clear history in Settings.
Apple language services
Translation and language analysis use available Apple frameworks and local resources. Preparing a missing resource can connect to Apple to download language data. The speech-recognition routes used by KeyAct require on-device recognition; an unsupported or unavailable local route is reported rather than silently replaced with a different language or a developer-hosted transcription service. Apple controls system downloads and permission dialogs.
The conjugation catalog in build 6 and later is bundled with the app and queried locally. It does not send your verb to UniMorph or another service. Source and license notices are included with the catalog.
Voice notes and folder access
KeyAct requests microphone access when you start recording and speech-recognition permission when transcription needs it. In audio mode, recordings are saved in the folder you choose. In transcript-only mode, audio is not kept as a saved recording. Transcripts can appear in local history. The sandbox edition saves a security-scoped bookmark so it can access your selected audio folder again. Revoking access may require choosing the folder again.
Optional online dictionary lookup
Look Up checks macOS dictionaries first. If no local definition is found and online fallback is enabled in Settings, KeyAct sends the entered word or short phrase to the English Wiktionary definition endpoint. Wikimedia can receive that term and normal connection information such as your IP address and the app's user-agent. Definitions may be English glosses even when the word is in another language. RainDigit does not proxy these requests. You can turn the fallback off in Settings → Look Up.
Wikimedia's handling of these requests is governed by its Privacy Policy, not this policy.
Wikimedia's policy describes temporary retention of request information and IP addresses, use for service operation and analysis, and possible inference of approximate location. KeyAct's App Store privacy disclosure therefore includes online search terms, approximate location and other connection data for this fallback; it is not a blanket “no data collected” claim. This does not enable developer analytics or send your local translations or recordings to Wikimedia. To avoid these requests, turn online fallback off.
URLs, HTTP requests, and scripts
Custom actions run only when you explicitly invoke them or use their configured shortcut. A URL or HTTP action sends the content you configure, including substituted clipboard text, directly to the destination you choose. That destination's privacy practices apply. Action definitions are local files, not a secure credential vault: do not put secrets in them.
The full local edition can run typed shell commands. The App Store / TestFlight edition instead runs executable scripts that you manually install in its Application Scripts folder, through Apple's NSUserUnixTask API. Your script can access resources or contact services according to its own behavior and macOS permissions. Only run scripts you trust. KeyAct captures their displayed output locally; it does not send that output to RainDigit.
Apple distribution and support
When you use TestFlight or enable Apple's diagnostic sharing, Apple may process beta feedback and crash information under its own terms. If you email RainDigit, we receive the information you choose to send and use it to handle your request. Do not include confidential text, recordings, passwords, or tokens.
Your choices and deletion
You can disable error reporting and online dictionary fallback, remove custom actions, clear local history, revoke macOS permissions, and delete saved audio files. KeyAct has no developer-held account or cloud profile to delete. Removing the app does not necessarily remove files you saved outside its container; delete those separately if desired. Contact us below for questions about reports already sent.
